After analyzing the recruiting numbers on our news page from the Department of Defense, do you think anyone can draw a conclusion about whether certain months are better for recruiting?

Is a summer lull, as has been spotted in both 2009 and 2010, attributable to any particular aspect of recruiting? Is it possible that high-school recruits are less accessible during the summer and that contributes to the lower numbers?

Is there a reason that the Reserves vary so much more than Active Duty in terms of consistent recruitment?

Do current events, like General McChrystal’s resignation, influence these numbers? Remember, the Rolling Stones article came out in the end of June… could that have influenced July recruiting?

What do you think about these issues?

I blame McChrystal. He should never have spoken to the reporter like that about the U.S. Army!

The end of the spring must be the best time to recruit. Lets be honest, most recruits are high school seniors who have not figured out what to do next. From this perspective the armed forces look great (payroll, benefits) and ideally will change you into a leader who can take on the world.

Summers should be lull, its the time when seniors who havent joined have found something else to do..
