I live in New York and only see recruiters around Times Square in Manhattan. Is there real recruitment happening in the city and I'm just not seeing it, or does New York not send as many soldiers into the military as other cities?

I think there is real recruitment in NYC, you just might not be seeing it if you are not going to a public high school here. - Mark, Brooklyn

i just read the news posting about how immigrants can get citizenship through joining the army. i just think it is really sad that people who want to be citizens have to join the army to get to be americans - and maybe die in the process.

I have been seeing a lot of recruiters in my area (Chapel Hill, NC) and I'm wondering if anyone knows the reason for this?

I think the number of recruiters in a given area doesn't change that much year to year - it is usually based on the past number of people who have been recruited from that area, population, etc.

I think they are going to have to up the recruitment strategies now that we're going to be sending in more troops to Afghanistan...

They will definitely have to, especially now since they will be closing down their big recruitment station at the Franklin Mills Mall here in Philly.

The most recent news I read is actually the opposite. Due to the problems with the economy people are turning more and more to the army - especially if they are looking to get money for school. So, this year was the first time since the early 70s that the army surpassed its recruiting goals - I also agree with whats been said, I also dont see many recruits in NY but its probably because the city doesnt have a great track record here for new soldiers

I'm glad the judge ruled against DADT. Now servicemen and women are not confined by their sexuality. To me, it doesn't matter if a soldier is gay or straight so long as he/she wants to fight for freedom.
